The restoration works inside of the Cathedral during 2019 ,  which due to its scope and magnitude, will make impossible to maintain the normal activity in the main altar, naves and in the chapels of the Basilica,. From the 28/1/2019 and during 12 months the worship will take place in other churches in the city.

Cathedral: visits and access

Opening times

Even though, the restoration works inside of the Cathedral in 2019 will bound some areas of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Pilgrims and visitors can still visit it from 9 a.m to 7 p.m.

Entrance 

The only door that will remain open for access will be the Platerías door in the Platerías square with double use: entrance and exit, also fulfilling the function of exit gate of Pórtico Real. Access by the Azabachería door is reserved for the uses and needs of the works.

Museum and Portico de la Gloria

To visit the magnificent Portico de la Gloria , you must go to the Museum entrance through the Gelmirez Palace.

Embrace the Apostle

The ritual of embracing the Apostle will not be affected by the restoration works and can still be performed in its niche and descend to the apostolic crypt.

The Botafumeiro

Due to the restoration works inside the Cathedral, until further notice, there will be no Botafumeiro ceremony.

Pilgrims’ Mass

The daily pilgrims’s mass will be celebrated in the San Francisco Church 400 m away from the Obradoiro Square.

Eucharist

The church of Santa María Salomé (Rua Nova, 31 – 400m away from the Cathedral) will host the celebration of the Eucharist with the following hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7:30 a.m, 9:00 a.m, 10:00 and 7:00 p.m
  • Saturdays: 7:30 a.m, 9:00 a.m, 10:00, 6:00 p.m  and 7:00 p.m
  • Sundays: 7:30 a.m, 9:00 a.m, 10:00, 1:00 p.m, 6:00 p.m and 7:00 p.m

The Parish of the Corticela

The mass will be at 11:00 h.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

The adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place in two churches:

  • Church of Las Huérfanas: daily from 10 a.m to 1:30 p.m and from 4 p.m to 7 p.m – Blessing and Holy Rosary at 6:40 p.m
  • Church of San Fernando: from Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m to 8 p.m

Masses in Foreign Languages

The locations for masses in foreign languages to be anounced. For futher details please contact the Pilgrims’ Office.

Conffesions

Conffesions ​​will be distributed in the churches of S. Fructuoso, S. Fiz de Solovio, St. Maria Salomé and in the chapel of the International Pilgrims’ welcome Center at the Pilgrims’ office, Rua Carretas 33.

Other festivies

The main solemnities and festivities, which will be duly indicated, will be celebrated in the church of S. Martín Pinario (Festivity of the Apostle Santiago, Misa Crismal, S. Juan de Ávila …).
