For those doing the Way of St. James or are planning to do it, we inform you that the Guardia Civil, one of the Spanish police forces, has developed a new functionality in the App AlertCops called “Guardian Benemérito” to the geolocation of pilgrims en route.
The Guardia Civil has announced the new AlertCops update – app created in 2014 by the Ministry of Interior of Spain–. This App is available on the App Store and Google Play for free and in different languages. With this new system pilgrims can share their last 10 locations generated directly by the app.
After downloading the app, it is necessary to enter your contact detail (name and surname, ID or passport, mobile phone…) and system will send you a code to access it. Then, you must click on “Guardian” and activate the service.
After activating the service, you can configure the update period. HIGH: your mobile will send the geolocation and the “Guardian” will check your location every 10 min; if you select MEDIUM it will be sent every 30 minutes and LOW every 60 minutes.
Then, you have to add your “Guardian”; it can be a personal contact or a public service of security. To add a personal contact it is necessary that the other person also has the AlertCops App on mobile.
If you activate “Guardián Benemérito” functionality, the geolocations will be automatically shared to the specific operational center of the Guardia Civil. In addition, this system operates 24 hours a day every day. In this way the geolocations, knowledge of battery status and phone network, facilitate a prompt attention.
Also new is the sending of an informative message with the emergency telephone number (062) and security tips for pilgrims.
