¿Where is Serra de Tramuntana?

The sierra is located on a sheer-sided mountain range parallel to the north-western coast of the island of Mallorca. This part of the island shares its name with the The Tramuntane wind, the Mediterrean north wind, which comes from the Latin trānsmontānus (trānsmontānus), “beyond/across the mountains”

The Sierra runs for around 90 km, with a maximum width of 15 km, over 18 municipalities the largest of which are Calvià, Pollença and Escorca. The highest mountain of the Balearic Islands is the Puig Mayor (with 1.436 m over the sea level).
