Strikes called by labor unions at some of Spain’s main transportation – rail and air companies- are complicating travel plans for summer holidays. Major stops called by the Spanish Railway company Renfe, Iberia airlines and Barcelona-El Prat airport security personnel could affect summer holidays for thousands of travelers.

BARCELONA PRAT AIRPORT

Iberia ground stuffed at the Barcelona El Part Airport called a strike last weekend. Those that flied in or out the Barcelona El Prat airport during the 27th and 28 of July suffered the consequences of these stops. The strike is called off.  However, the labor unions did not reach an agreement with Iberia which will force them to call a new strike in the few days.

Also, the El Prat security personnel call an indefinite strike. The company committee of Trablisa, the company in charge of security controls at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, has registered an indefinite and 24-hour strike with the Ministry of Labor from Friday, August 9th to request improvements in working conditions improvements and labor.

SPANISH RAILWAY COMPANY RENFE

Spain’s state -run railway company Renfe has canceled 1,152 train services (477 medium-distance, 230 high-speed AVE services and 445 freight trains) due to a four-day strike called by the CGT union for

  • July 31st
  • August 14th
  • August 30th
  • September 1st

Renfe will give travelers the option of taking another train with a similar departure time, or refunding or changing their tickets at no extra cost, according to a press release published on Monday 29th.
