JOUR APRÈS JOUR
Day 01: Arrival at the airport of Madrid and transfer to Peñafiel. We will visit an interesting winery (Ribera del Duero designation of origin) and the Castle. In Burgos, we will visit the imposing cathedral and taste the famous ‘Burgos black pudding’, as well as mature cheese in one of the restaurants in the historical centre.
Day 02: We travel across the plains of Castile along the Way of St James. We will visit the Romanesque church of Frómista and the historical centre (‘Barrio Húmedo’) of León. We will enjoy an interesting tapas route and taste the local specialities, such as cecina. We will end the day with dinner at an underground winery, tasting the local wine.
Day 03: After visiting the Gothic cathedral and the Basilica of San Isidoro, we will travel to Astorga, which is the main town in the district known as La Margatería. In Castrillo de los Polvazares, we will enjoy a meal of cocido arriero. We then travel to Oviedo and walk around the historical centre, enjoying the local cider culture in the city’s lively bars.
Day 04: We will visit a cider bar and then travel to the coast, enjoying the pretty fishing ports on the Cantabrian: Cudillero and Luarca are just two of our stops. We will taste fish and seafood at the fisherman’s taverns and then travel along the Cantabrian to Ribadeo. Here, we will enjoy a dinner of famous Cantabrian bonito in a panoramic restaurant.
Day 05: We will walk under the huge rocky archways of the ‘As Catedrais’ beach. We will enjoy tapas in the village of Viveiro and visit the imposing capes and magical shrines. We will also visit the estuary of Ferrol and, in Mugardos, we will try the local fish and octopus dishes, an authentic gastronomical secret. We leave the coast and travel to Santiago through the beautiful inland countryside of Galicia.
Day 06: We will wander around the stalls of the beautiful market of Santiago; we will do our shopping and then travel to the cookery workshop to cook the fresh products bought at the market. In the evening, we will have free time to visit the stone buildings of Santiago, especially the cathedral. For dinner, we will enjoy tapas in the bars of the popular streets of ‘do Franco’ and ‘A Raiña’.
Day 07: Today, we are going to the coast to see the countryside around the Galician estuaries. We will sail to a batea, a floating platform on which mussels, oysters and vieiras (scallops), which are the symbol of the Way of St James, are cultivated. We will taste and enjoy the fruity Albariño wine of the Rías Baixas designation of origin. We end the journey with a selection of fish and seafood dishes next to the sea in the beautiful, historical town of Cambados. We return to Santiago to bid farewell to this special city.
Day 08: After breakfast, we travel to the airport of Santiago and that marks the end of our services.
