The Portuguese Way is immersed in a sea of color during the end of winter and spring thanks to the Camellia, the queen flower of the Rias Baixas.
The camellia is a flower that arrived in Galicia in the 18th century from China and Japan and thanks to the climatology, humidity of the Atlantic Ocean and the acidity of the land of the Rías Baixas has found its ideal growing place.
At first they were planted in Manor houses of the Galician nobility but little by little they were taken to the gardens both public and private.
This flower has turned Galicia into an international reference in the cultivation and production of this plant that already has 8,000 different varieties.

Pontevedra is the capital of the Pontevedra Province. A small city with a medieval origin. You will have to enjoy its old town and its numerous parks where the Camellia gives the city color and identity.
Pazo de Lourizan: close to Pontevedra
If you have a little bit of extra time do not hesitate visiting the Pazo de Lourizán just a 10 min drive away from Pontevedra. An incredible romantic palace of the 15th century where you can find both native and foreign species of flora as well as the beautiful White Camellia.
Padrón: stage Caldas de Reis Padrón
Padrón is one of the most relevant towns of the Camino de Santiago due to its relevance in the history of the Camino. According to the legend, the magic boat that brought the body the Apostle Santiago made it to Padrón. A small town full of character and being the home town of famous writers like Camilo José Cela or Rosalía de Castro. Get lost through its botanical garden or the gardens in the Museum of Rosalia de Castro.

There are infinite places to get lost in Santiago de Compostela after visiting the Cathedral being its parks one of the best places to enjoy tranquility. The Alameda Park, the Bonaval Park, the Belvís Park and of course the Camellia has its presence.
